Metaphorical and Metonymical Heart in Turkish: Kalp and Yürek

Traditionally, the notion of metaphor has been conceived as a figure speech used in poetry and prose so far. In Lakoffian paradigm, however, metaphors are not confined to literary language; they located everyday language shape way one conceptualizes mental domain via another. Thus, abstract concepts like life, time, state, change expressed metaphorically (Lakoff, 1993). this study, metonyms kalp yürek frequently colloquial Turkish dealt within abovementioned theoretical framework, even though two words known synonyms, what kinds similarities differences exist between their metaphorical metonymical uses put forth. Data were collected from METU Written Corpus (Say, Zeyrek, Oflazer, Özge, 2004), monolingual dictionary dictionaries idioms proverbs. Findings indicate that concept is far more than metonyms, replaced with another some contexts. What difference may result was partially interpreted study; nevertheless, research on spoken corpora folkloric works particular could be necessary.
